Hospice Intensive October 28, 2024 8-11am

Tyler Staples, PsyD - Developing Resilience in Professional Hospice and Palliative Caregivers

Job-related stress is well-documented in healthcare professionals, which can lead to deleterious

effects on the healthcare field, including patient outcomes. In the absence of systematic

organizational changes, healthcare professionals must rely on personal resilience to maintain

psychological well-being. The current presentation discusses research regarding resilience in healthcare professionals and the ways that professionals can develop resilience in themselves, their agencies, and/or their clients.

Palliative Care Intensive October 28, 2024 8-11am

Melissa Gaines, MD FACP - Polypharmacy: A Practical Approach to Deprescribing

Polypharmacy is common in older adults and those with serious life threatening illness.  Frail elderly patients in nursing homes have the highest number of medications.  There is a strong relationship with negative clinical consequences in patients with polypharmacy.  More than half of patients are taking more than one medication that isn’t medically necessary.  This session will give practical tips to address polypharmacy and start a de-prescribing process.  There will be a framework to determine relatedness when it comes to hospice medications and coverage by the hospice or individual.
