Description:

The risk for payment of hospice claims increased significantly with CMS’ implementation of targeted probe and educate.  This webinar briefly reviews the targeted probe and educate model and delves into stated and potential hospice target areas, how they impact operations and preparation and response plans, as well as what is expected to be in every hospice medical record to support the claim.  Topics covered include long lengths of stay, criteria for general inpatient care, proper use of Q-codes, certification of terminal illness and election statements.

Learning Outcomes:

  1. Know the basics of the targeted probe and educate model and understand its potential impact on a hospice
  2. List the current targeted probe and educate topics
  3. Understand where to look for and how to anticipate potential future topics
  4. Explain which CMS contractors may request records
  5. Recognize the two essential documents for every medical record review (election statement and certification of terminal illness) and their required components
  6. Review suggestions to employ to minimize claim risks
