This seminar will cover:
- Provide strategies to manage intervene with troubled patients & their families. Participants will review the initial purpose of the DSM and how this has evolved since its inception. Participants will be able to define motivational interviewing and the basic tenets of what creates change in clients with mental illness. Participants will review major mental illness diagnoses and be able to identify relevant changes per the DSM 5 as well as describe the assessment and referral strategies for clients with mental illness.
Family Conflicts at the End of Life
- Family conflict at the end of life. Participants will be able to identify how family conflict can lead to ethical dilemmas. Participants will be able to discuss common themes that indicate a patient’s family may be hindering care and treatment. Participants will identify strategies when discharging a patient is necessary due to family conflict.
PTSD Relating to Hospice/Palliative Care
- Numerous social work areas to include PTSD in hospice & palliative care. Participants will be able to identify main categories of PTSD diagnostic criteria. Participants will be able to identify 3 ways in which PTSD may impact palliative/hospice care. Participants will be able to identify 5 strategies to improve coping of palliative/hospice care patients with PTSD.
