Objectives:

  • Participants will be able to discuss the trends in the demographics of hospice patients whose primary diagnosis is cancer
    -Percentage of hospice patients with a terminal diagnosis of cancer is declining
    -Hospice care of cancer patients is becoming more complicated due to new chemotherapy and radiotherapy available
  •  Participants will be able to understand the medical guidelines available regarding treatment of oncology patients
    -Guidelines recognized by oncologist
    -American Society of Clinical Oncologist palliative and hospice care guidelines
    -National Comprehensive Cancer Network palliative and hospice care guidelines
  •  Participants will be able to review symptoms and treatment options unique to oncology patients
    -Hypercalcemia
    -Superior vena cava syndrome
    -Spinal cord compression
    -Increased intracranial pressure
    -Coagulation issues
    -Cardiotoxicity

Price is based on the use of one line per hospice.  For additional lines contact the MHPCA office or register as a separate registration.

This program is eligible for up to 1.5 MO Nursing Contact Hours. Participants from Missouri interested in credit hours should indicate on the sign in sheet from each hospice their desire to receive credit hours.  There will be an additional $10.00 per person for contact hours.  Please make checks payable to MHPCA with a copy of your sign in sheet to receive credit for participants.  All participants wanting credit must sign the sheet and fill out an evaluation.

Social workers participating in this course will receive _1.5__ continuing education clock hours.
Social workers requesting Social Worker CEU’s must take a post test and return it to MHPCA after the training before a certificate can be issued.
