How Medicare Payment Should Change Performance Webinar

Let’s get this right! With the decision by Medicare to begin paying for advance care planning in January 2016, expectations will change about advance care planning the importance of establishing goals of care, especially for those facing life limiting illness. Hospice and Palliative care professionals need to hone skills and take advantage of tools and processes that ensure effective outcomes. You may not get rich, but you do need to get it right.

The presentation will explore the duties and obligations of clinical staff in:
• Differentiating fiduciary obligations of agents, and limitations of certain powers of attorney
• Understanding the differences in process and documentation in the advance care planning process
• Clarifying effective processes for eliciting goals of care
• Translating goals into actionable physician orders (e.g. executing Outside of Hospital DNRs and Transportable Physician Order for Patient Preferences)

Speaker: John G. Carney, MEd, PAHM
CEO, Center for Practical Bioethics

John Carney was the VP of Aging and EOL for CPB from 2004 to 2011. He co-authored Report to Congress on Advance Care Planning in 2009. He also helped co-found National Health Care Decisions Day and is currently the CEO of the Center for Practical Bioethics since 12/2011.

This program is eligible for up to 1.5 MO Nursing Contact Hours. Participants from Missouri interested in credit hours should indicate on the sign in sheet from each hospice their desire to receive credit hours.  There will be an additional $10.00 per person for contact hours.  Please make checks payable to MHPCA with a copy of your sign in sheet to receive credit for participants.  All participants wanting credit must sign the sheet and fill out an evaluation.
