“Conflict Over End Of Life Care: How To Do It Better” – Robert M. Arnold, MD
This session will list three reasons why conflicts occur in end of life care and describe two communication skills that can be used to prevent conflict.
“Managing GI Issues of Obstruction, Jaundice, Feeding, and Constipation in Patients with Life-limiting Illness” – Dr. Patrick White, MD, HMDC, FACP, FAAHPM; Dr. Koushik K. Das, M.D.; Dr. Elizabeth Blaney, MD
Participants will review the evidence and controversies on the role of endoscopy in palliating malignant esophageal obstruction, endoscopic stenting in palliating malignant small and large bowel obstruction, biliary stenting in patients with terminal malignancy, biliary stenting, the available stents, and the role for their further replacement in patients with terminal malignancy. Also, the participants will review options for enteric feeding (gastrostomy, jejunostomy, and combination) tubes in patients with aspiration and dysphagia and review the novel agents available for management of constipation, especially in patients on chronic opioids.
